CURRENT ROLES

IFAB Engineering Partners Ltd. is seeking serious applicants to fill the role of Electrical Designer. Work is performed in collaboration with a full complement of designers and engineers from a variety of disciplines, with primary emphasis on electrical design. The role is to be an integral part of the project team with the design of electrical systems for various building facilities in compliance with all relevant codes and standards. Responsibilities include preparing and modifying design drawings in AutoCAD/REVIT for electrical systems including power distribution, lighting (indoor and outdoor), standby power generation, controls, life safety systems, voice/data telecommunications and security/CCTV systems.

 

The ideal candidate for this position has experience in electrical design of industrial buildings. Previous experience in the food and beverage industry would be considered an asset. Key Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Work closely with senior designers, engineers, project managers, and technical specialists on project that include the design of power distributions, lighting and lighting controls, standby power generation, fire alarm systems, telecommunications and security systems, with design to meet or exceed local building code requirements;
  • Develop electrical drawings and schedules with drawing sets including preliminary, schematic, general arrangement, detailed design, tender and construction for a wide range of clients;
  • Provide value-added designs to “right size” the investment for clients, and assist with trade off assessments for maximum value in both short and long term;
  • Visit project sites to conduct assessments of existing electrical systems, and to inspect new installations;
  • Participate in design team meetings to achieve an optimal coordinated design;
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to both direct reports and to other members of the project team;
  • Maintain familiarity with current techniques, industry standards, etc,; and
  • Actively work at improving skills and increasing current knowledge of electrical design.

 

Position Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate in electrical design/engineering from a recognized college, university or training institution or demonstrated experience as an electrical designer;
  • A minimum of three years’ relevant experience as an electrical designer;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD and/or REVIT;
  • Demonstrated working understanding of the Ontario Building Code and ideally also experience with the National Building Code;
  • Demonstrated working understanding of codes and regulations associated with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and Canadian Electrical Code;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Strong technical, organizational, coordination and communication skills as demonstrated through previous project work;
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to work as part of a team;
  • Desire to develop skills and expand career;
  • Proven experience with office software such as the MS Office Suite; and
  • Experience in the food sector is considered an asset but not a requirement.

 

TRAVEL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is completed in a climate controlled comfortable modern office environment;
  • Limited travel may be necessary to visit client site’s; travel; is expected to be required 5-15% of the time, including occasional overnights.

The role of Senior Structural Engineer is an important technical leadership position.   Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Senior Structural Engineer will provide structural design expertise on a variety of projects. The Senior Structural Engineer leads by example on an array of structural design analysis, code compliance, and drawing reviews.  This role provides the opportunity to utilize technical skills, stay abreast with industry standards and trends, as well as being a key team player to the successful completion of IFAB projects.

The ideal candidate for this position has experience working as a structural engineer on both commercial and industrial buildings.  Experience leading a team and knowledge of the food and beverage sector would highlight an exemplary candidate.   • Perform in the capacity of a fully licensed structural engineer with the authority to seal drawings;
  • Work closely with designers, fellow engineers, technical specialists, and project managers to design optimized industrial and commercial facilities;
  • Evaluate and interpret project requirements in order to develop innovative and good value solutions to clients’ needs;
  • Participate in design team collaboration in order to achieve optimal design;
  • Perform field investigations, computer modeling, structural analysis on existing and proposed structures;
  • Provide structural design and engineering for building permits, tendering of work, and general construction;
  • Support project managers with design work and coordination of approvals as required;
  • Act as a project manager when appropriate;
  • Review shop drawings and perform site observations to validate general conformance to design;
  • Work under the guidance of the director of engineering to develop design skills and ensure design quality standards are met; and
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to all structural team staff.

 

Position Requirements

  • Degree in Structural Engineering from a recognized college, university or training institution;
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a certified Professional Engineer;
  • Demonstrated working understanding of the Ontario Building Code and the National Building Code;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong technical, organizational, coordination, and communication skills, as demonstrated through previous project work;
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to work as part of a team and to lead a team;
  • Desire to develop skills and expand career;
  • Proven experience with office software such as the MS Office Suite; and
  • Experience in the Food and Beverage Industry considered an asset but is not a requirement.

 

TRAVEL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The Senior Architectural Designer works to create drawings, details, and specifications for projects ranging from small building renovations to multi-million dollar new builds, with designs all aimed at optimization and value for the clients as well as profitability for IFAB.  The person in this role is a coach and leader for architectural and building design across the company.

 

The ideal candidate for this position has experience with building code analysis and building design, including an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of commercial and industrial building detailing. Experience with BIM as well as knowledge of the food and beverage industry would be seen as an asset.   • Define a basis of design for review and calibration with clients;
  • Prepare site plans and building drawings using AutoCAD or REVIT;
  • Develop drawings and specification packages for site plan, building permit, procurement, and construction;
  • Conduct reviews for general conformance to design and review project shop drawings;
  • Participate as an active intermediate to senior level design team member, working under the direction of the discipline lead on specific projects, integrating good hygienic design, code compliance, constructability, accuracy, and effective value-added solutions for clients into building projects;
  • Provide coaching to other architectural building designers on best practices and good design;
  • Demonstrate and/or develops expertise in the specialty of the food sector hygienic design requirements through both research and professional experience;
  • Participate in design team collaboration in order to achieve optimal design and value for the client.

 

Position Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate in architectural design/engineering from a recognized college, university or training institution;
  • 5-10 years’ experience as a designer, structural technologist, architectural technologist, CAD technician, BIM designer, engineer or a similar role;
  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency with AutoCAD or REVIT;
  • Demonstrated working understanding of the Ontario Building Code and the National Building Code;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Strong technical, organizational, coordination, and communication skills, as demonstrated through previous project work;
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to work as part of a team;
  • Desire to develop skills and expand career;
  • Proven experience with office software such as the MS Office Suite;
  • Experience in the food sector is considered an asset but is not a requirement.

 

TRAVEL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
