IFAB Engineering Partners Ltd. is seeking serious applicants to fill the role of Food Processing Engineer / Specialist. Work is performed in collaboration with a full complement of designers and engineers from a variety of disciplines, with a primary emphasis on efficient process design. The Food Processing Engineer works to develop efficient solutions for our clients’ food production and packaging upgrades, with projects ranging from small renovations to multi-million dollar new builds. The person in this role promotes and increases process design capabilities for IFAB.


The ideal candidate for this position has a background in chemical, industrial, or process engineering and is a specialist in the protein or bakery sector. While the position title indicates a preference for a licenced engineer, that requirement can be superseded by someone who has the equivalent in years of practical experience.  We are also open to specialists in the beverage sector.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead process design efforts for new and/or modified food and beverage production facilities across Canada;
  • Work closely with designers, fellow engineers, technical specialists, and project managers to design optimized systems, structures, and components;
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of equipment and process in order to minimize downtime, turnaround time, and waste reduction while maintaining an excellent standard of quality;
  • Lead step-change improvements to optimize throughput, production rates, yield, cost, and changeover time;
  • Provide guidance on improved manufacturing layout and production flow both within production lines and across food facilities;
  • Evaluate and interpret project requirements in order to develop innovative and good value solutions to clients’ needs;
  • Provide ongoing technical support across multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Act as project manager/coordinator when appropriate;
  • Develop and manage procurement packages for equipment and installation;
  • Keep informed of the latest and greatest innovations; and
  • Support project manager with design work and coordination of approvals as required for full project success.


Position Requirements

  • Degree in Industrial or Chemical Engineering from a recognized college, university or training institution, or the equivalent in years of experience;
  • Minimum of five years of experience in food production;
  • Demonstrated working understanding of the Ontario Building Code and the National Building Code;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong technical, organizational, coordination, and communication skills, as demonstrated through previous project work;
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to work as part of a team and to lead a team;
  • Desire to develop skills and expand career;
  • Proven experience with office software such as the MS Office Suite; and
  • Experience in the Food and Beverage Industry with a specific focus on proteins or bakery considered an asset.



Work is completed in a climate controlled comfortable modern office environment; Limited travel may be necessary to support project presentations and site investigations at client sites across Canada; travel is expected to be in the range of 10%- 20% of the time, including occasionally overnight
